My friend buys beer every night, usually 2 tall cans, or a 6 pack every other day.
He’s trying to stop drinking beer so he started drinking those little bottles of vodka once a night which in his mind he thinks is better for him

Enough to get him/her in a state of pure inebriation. Amounts of alcohol vary for people.

Drink not the thing that distinguishes an alcoholic is if drinking has causes problem in their life and they still continue to drink not the quantity of alcohol you consume.
