Is it safe to keep food in cans after opening?

Alexander T asked:

I mean, in the fridge. I will often open a can (beetrrot, let’s say) and consume it in the next 3-4 days while keeping the food (the beetroot) in the original can in the fridge. Is this practice safe, or must the food be transferred in another container before refridgerating (plastic or porcelain or whatever)? I do close the can with food-wrapping paper.

Nope. You want to transfer them to an reasonably airtight container. Oxidation happens more quickly when metal’s involved!

NO. Quickest way to food poisoning. Put it in something else before refridgeration.
