Why do some people drink the leaves in green tea?

I drink green tea regularly with loose leaves but so does my mom, but she drinks them. I dont know why she does that, is it beneficial?

    Never heard of drinking tea leaves.

    There would be no value is doing that and besides……..

    The taste and chewing on leaf or two wont hurt you.
    Drink it daily think we get used to the taste and chewing on leaf or two wont hurt you.
