Why is it that when drinking homebrew, I never get drunk but when I drink Commercial beer I feel the effects?

I make my homebrew about 5% but when I drink commercial beer I drink it at 4.6% and I feel the effects easier. When I drink my homebrew, I can never seem to get drunk, only with commercial beer, why is that?

You left something out or maybe it needs to age more.

Most commercial beer is filtered and pasteurized. The most important influence is the yeast. In homebrew, the yeast is not normally filtered out. The yeast does quite a bit to kill the effects of the dreaded hangover.
